Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants are important in hair care because they fight off free radicals that cause damage to the cells in hair follicles. Damage to hair follicles means that the new strands of hair will not be supported adequately enough to complete the hair cycle, which will result in hair loss. The antioxidant property of vitamin C in Amla helps maintain the barrier of the hair follicle to prevent premature hair loss.

Besides being a powerful antioxidant, vitamin C also increases iron absorption. Blood vessels below the surface of hair follicles feed the root of hair with oxygenated blood—providing nourishment for optimal hair strength and growth. Iron helps to increase blood circulation to the scalp so that the blood vessels can provide this nourishment. Studies show that iron deficiency can cause hair loss. When patients complain of balding or hair loss, doctors will look at iron levels in the blood to determine if this is a potential cause. Iron is an essential nutrient for hair health and its absence will greatly affect hair growth. That’s why we love that Amla is so rich in vitamin C to assist in iron availability!
