One of the main causes of alopecia is the overproduction of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a derivative of testosterone. Both males and females have a normal range of testosterone in the body. With the overproduction of DHT, scalp follicles may become more susceptible to allow DHT to bind to its receptors causing the hair follicle to shrink. A decreased hair follicle doesn’t allow new hair to grow and compete the hair cycle, resulting in hair loss and breakage.  Saponins found in fenugreek block the production of DHT to inhibit the negative effects on hair growth.

Other useful contents in fenugreek include amino acids and protein. These contents prevent the hair from water repellent properties that can be caused by chemicals and heat appliances. Amino acids supply the hair with necessary nutrition to keep in moisture and maintain a healthy state. Fenugreeks prevent hair loss, hair breakage, and promote healthy hair altogether. Read the hibiscus section to learn about the other benefits of amino acids.
